The July consumption of diesel compared with 6.8 million tonnes in the same month last year. A contraction in the use of diesel eased from -55.5% in April year-on-year to -29.3% in May and -15.4% in June after the coronavirus disease lockdown was gradually relaxed starting on June 1.

The Delhi Petrol Dealers Association (DPDA) on Thursday wrote to Kejriwal and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia requesting them to reduce the VAT on petroleum products stating that the “wide price disparity” with the neighbouring states has given rise to “smuggling of diesel” into Delhi from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The pipeline, which runs from Motihari in Bihar to Amlekhgunj in Nepal, will replace tankers that carry petroleum products from India as part of an arrangement put in place in 1973. India, Nepal’s sole supplier of oil, funded the Rs 324-crore project.

Rise in exports, lower imports narrow India’s trade deficit

Marginal 2.44 per cent increase in exports as well as lower imports of gold and petroleum products in February significantly narrowed India’s trade deficit to USD 9.6 billion, according to data released by the commerce ministry on Friday.

Petrol, diesel see big price hikes on Sunday

As per data from Indian Oil Corp, petrol price in Delhi was increased to Rs 70.95 per litre on Sunday while in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai the fuel cost Rs 73.05, Rs 76.58 and Rs 73.65 respectively.

Over 450 medium, heavy goods vehicles denied entry into Delhi

More than 450 heavy and medium goods vehicles were sent back from Delhi borders due to a three-day ban on their entry till Sunday, authorities said. According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Alok Kumar, 1,559 vehicles were checked and 1,078 vehicles were allowed entry from 11 pm on Friday till 6 am on Saturday.
