The exoplanet called HD106906 b occupies an unlikely orbit around a double star 336 light-years away. It was first discovered in 2013 with the Magellan Telescopes at the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile’s Atacama Desert.

This large young planet is forming around a star called AB Aurigae that is about 2.4 times the mass of the Sun and located in our Milky Way galaxy 520 light years from Earth, researchers said on Wednesday.

The new planet, b Pictoris c, completes its orbit roughly every 1,200 days. Like its big sister b Pictoris b, discovered by Lagrange and her team in 2009, it is a gassy giant.
