On completion within two years, the two projects will provide piped-water supply to over 42 lakh people in 2,995 villages of the two districts of the Vindhyachal region which along with Bundelkhand is among India’s most water-scarce areas.

One body recovered from stone quarry in UP’s Sonbhadra, 3 feared trapped

Eyewitness said that stone breaking and drilling was underway in the quarry on Friday when three big rocks suddenly fell from the top of an adjoining mine, trapping eight he labourers and triggering panic.

No 3k-tonne gold deposit found in UP’s Sonbhadra: Geological Survey of India

Reacting to the reports, GSI, which is headquartered in Kolkata, said it had carried out gold exploration in the region but the results were not encouraging.

Gold mine with 5 times India’s current reserve found in UP’s Sonbhadra

The data by the World Gold Council shows India currently has 626 tonnes of gold reserves. The new reserves are almost five times that amount and estimated to be worth nearly 12 lakh crore.

Wild tuskers kill forester, wreak havoc in village

A herd of 15 wild elephants, including two calves, killed a forest official of Madhya Pradesh and a bull and destroyed many houses in Gobha village on UP-MP border during Sunday night, a senior forest official said. An alert has been sounded in Sonbhadra district, which shares its boundary with Madhya Pradesh.
