Triple talaq law contributed to woman empowerment: Javadekar

The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act prohibits the practice of instant divorce by Muslim men. Any violation of the law is punishable by jail term of up to three years.

Minority affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the law against triple talaq has nothing to do with religion and was made purely to ensure gender equality by ending an “inhuman, cruel and unconstitutional practice”.

Karnataka woman allegedly given triple talaq from Dubai over WhatsApp

The couple had been married for about 20 years, and the woman’s husband had left for Sharjah-Dubai in January but did not come back, police said quoting the woman’s complaint.
