Indian millennials are into ‘travel bragging’ on social media to invite admiration and build fame amongst their friends and followers, a survey says.

When on a holiday, how much time do you spend on your phone and how much time do you devote to soaking in the culture and nature of the place? In a new survey, over 40% respondents admitted that they spend over four hours a day bragging on their mobiles while travelling, often more glued to the small screen than the beach scene, according to Hotels.com’s ‘Mobile Travel Tracker’.

When it comes to what social media savvy travellers were bragging about on their trips, 64% were food snaps, scoring high on the charts, it revealed. Travel braggers show off their ‘foodporn’ to those stuck at home with their roti and sabzi, posting gourmet dishes from across the globe, it added. The ‘Mobile Travel Tracker’ research was conducted by One Poll in November 2017, and the data is based on 9,000 respondents across 30 countries.

Being a generation of filter-loving, selfie-stick addicts, around 85% of 18-29 year olds admit they would rather upload a selfie than cityscape photos (51%) while on holiday, it said. The research also found that romance really is dwindling as 31% Indians admitted that they would rather travel with their smartphone than their partner. Travellers even admitted to getting more anxious when their phone runs out of battery (29%) than if they argue with their partner on a trip (2%).
