A few days ago, a video of a little girl from Arunachal Pradesh went viral online after she spoke about being called “Chinese” by strangers. Her innocent account of the incident sparked conversations around racism, identity and the experiences of people from the Northeast.
Now, the little girl has a happy update to share. In a new video, she excitedly tells her mother that people on Facebook are calling her “India” and “India ka baby”, a moment that has won hearts online.
‘Abh hum Indian hogaye’
In the video, the little girl can be seen talking to her mother about the attention she has received online. She happily says that everyone is calling her India and tells her mother, “Mummy, abh hum Indian hogaye.”
When her mother asks her what she said, the little girl repeats herself, saying, “Abh hum Indian hogaye.”
Her mother then explains that people on Facebook are referring to her as “India ka baby”. The little girl agrees enthusiastically, responding, “Yehi, yehi.”
The heartwarming exchange ends with her mother asking her to thank the people who have been supporting her. The little girl then says, “Thank you, thank you bhai sahab, sabko. Jo bhi humko like kar rahe hain, hamare mummy-papa, mummy-mami ko like karega, hum bhi.”
The innocent response has struck a chord with social media users, particularly because it comes after the little girl’s earlier video drew attention to the insensitive treatment faced by people from the Northeast.
