Authorities say Mexican TV and movie actor Renato Lopez has been shot to death in a car on a highway outside of Mexico City. A publicity agent was also killed in the attack.

Lopez played a supporting role in the recently released movie “Macho,” about a straight fashion designer who feels obliged to act gay. He’s also been a host on television shows.

The Mexico State prosecutor’s office said Friday that the bodies of Lopez and Omar Giron were found in car in the rural township of Jilotzingo. The area where the shooting occurred Thursday is largely wooded.

While musicians have sometimes been targeted in Mexico’s drug violence, actors have largely been spared until now.
