Saumya Tandon recently came back from the Cannes Film Festival. The model-actor visited the international event to curate foreign films for her online platform that screens movies. Here, she talks about her experience at the festival, her new TV show, and more.
How was your experience at the Cannes Film Festival?I met several producers and distributors to get English, German, Chinese, Irish and French films for my platform. Apart from that, I attended the premiere of films like Gimme Danger by Jim Jarmusch, and Graduation by Cristian Mungiu, among others. I didn’t have a lot of time, but I went to Monacco for a day, and also visited a small island nearby.

Cannes sees a lot of Bollywood representation every year. Do you think it is an important market for Indian films?
No, that is a misconception. None of the Indian films are chosen for the competition section. As far as screening a film is concerned, anyone can screen a film at Cannes. All you have to do is apply for it, and then book a screen. If your film is selected for the competition section, only then is it an honour to take it to Cannes.
You’ve had a good year so far as your comedy show has been doing really well.
Yes, it has been a great year. Our show is a breath of fresh air. Most fiction shows are replicas of each other. Our show is not slapstick, and that is why it appeals to the viewers. The content works, and I am glad about that. Also, the show has talented actors, and not some college dropouts, who will do anything in the name of acting.
