Afghanistan asks India to call urgent UNSC meeting after blast rocks Kabul

- Afghan foreign minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar spoke to his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar. Atmar spoke on convening a UN Security Council meeting. He also spoke on escalating violence by the Taliban in Afghanistan. India is currently holding the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council. "The international community's responsibility is to stand alongside the Afghan people and prevent this savage war across the country, especially in the provinces," Atmar said. Afghanistan defence minister Bismillah Mohammadi’s house was attacked on Tuesday. A car bomb reportedly went off outside the minister’s residence in Kabul. Taliban are currently in control of half of Afghanistan. They have launched a major assault on provincial capitals. Heavy fighting is underway in urban centres of Afghanistan.
