After Pakistan breaks truce & kills Afghan cricketers, Pak Army chief gives Taliban a ‘choice’

Published on Oct 18, 2025 08:51 pm IST

Fresh clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan have left three Afghan cricketers dead among at least 10 killed in Paktika province, despite a temporary truce. The strikes on October 17 came just hours after both countries agreed to extend a 48-hour ceasefire. Following the attack, Afghanistan withdrew from its upcoming T20I cricket series. The violence threatens the fragile truce established on October 15, amid preparations for peace talks in Doha. Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir issued a stern warning to the Taliban: “Choose between peace and chaos. All proxies using Afghan soil would be met with a response to raise them to dust.” The clashes erupted after Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi visited India, with Pakistan accusing Kabul of acting as a proxy for Indian interests, further complicating the already tense border situation.
