Cabinet Clears ₹23,731 Crore GOBARDHAN Scheme | Big Boost for Biogas

The Union Cabinet has approved the ₹23,731 crore GOBARDHAN initiative, aimed at promoting the production and use of compressed biogas from agricultural and municipal waste. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India currently imports around 50% of its natural gas consumption, and the government is working to reduce this dependence by making better use of the country's domestic bio-resources. The initiative will focus on converting agricultural residue, cattle dung and other organic waste into biogas and compressed biogas.
