Covid update: China’s 1st vaccine patent; New Zealand relapse; UP Assembly scare

From India witnessing a record rise in the number of patients recovered over a span of 24 hours, to around 20 staff members at the Uttar Pradesh Assembly testing positive ahead of a legislature session - here are the top news updates on the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Haryana Assembly has banned made-in-China masks and sanitisers on the premises. The Speaker has also made a Covid negative certificate mandatory for entry into the Assembly. Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal was discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Science after recovering from the disease. Recently, his Cabinet colleague Amit Shah also tested negative. Shah, the Union Home minister, was the first Union Cabinet member to be infected. India has had over 26.4 lakh cases so far with over 50,900 deaths.

In international news, China reportedly handed out its first Covid vaccine patent to CanSino Biologics. Meanwhile, New Zealand, which had gone 102 without any local cases, has had to postpone national elections due to a resurgence in infections.
