Ghazipur crematorium staff holds mass funeral in adjoining parking lot amid rush

- A mass funeral was held in a parking lot adjoining the Ghazipur crematorium in the national capital. With a ceaseless arrival of dead bodies at the crematorium the staff says they have no option but to start setting up pyres in the adjacent parking lot. The crematorium can only accommodate 36 bodies at a time and the body bags arriving are far exceeding that number. The second surge is ripping through the national capital and a struggling health care system that has completely caved in. Shortage of medical oxygen, hospital beds and essential drugs, have compounded the capital’s Covid emergency. Delhi on Friday officially logged 348 Covid-linked deaths.
