India's Zydus Cadila seeks emergency use nod for its Covid vaccine for 12+ age

• Zydus Cadila has sought DCGI nod for emergency use of its DNA vaccine for 12+ years of age. The Gujarat-based pharmaceutical company has sought emergency use approval of ZyCoV-D. It carries genetic code for that part of a virus which triggers the body's immune system. ZyCoV-D will be the second indigenous Covid-19 vaccine to apply for such authorisation. Firm reportedly showed interim results of Phase-III clinical trials in 28,000+ volunteers. DCGI had granted Cadila permission to conduct human trials for ZyCoV-D in July last year. The pharmaceutical company had said that its vaccine will hit the markets by June 2021. Earlier, Cadila was in news for getting license from Gilead Sciences to produce remdesivir. The Phase-III trial data from Cadila shows Zycov-D is safe for kids between 12-18 years. The company has planned to manufacture 100-120 million doses Covid vaccines annually.
