Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with street vendors from Madhya Pradesh via video-conferencing. He spoke to them about their experience while availing the PM-SVANidhi scheme, or Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors' AtmaNirbhar Nidhi scheme. The programme was launched in the wake of the Covid-induced lockdown severely impacting the livelihood of street vendors and hawkers. It involves provision of working capital loans up to Rs 10,000 from banks. PM Modi also lauded the efforts of the Madhya Pradesh government under Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for extending the benefits to a large number of vendors within a comparatively short period of time, given the limitations due to the pandemic.
