Vikram Chandra on Supreme Court orders on migrant crisis, other top stories

The top court issued interim directions to the centre, states and union territories to take immediate steps to improve the condition of the migrant workers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of the key points issued by the apex court was that migrants should not be charged with the train or bus fare the cost of which shall be borne by the centre and the states. The court further stated that all those stranded will be provided food by the concerned state and originating states and railways will provide food and water to migrant workers during the journey. States have also been directed to set up help desks to fast track the registration process of migrant workers.
