Delhi’s elephants are leaving the polluted city after activists launch complaints

Mehboob Ali and his family's six elephants can no longer live in Delhi. By order of the Forest Department, he has to get them out of the city by 15 December. The order comes after complaints from activists and NGOs that having elephants in crowded areas is risky. Activists also alleged the elephants were kept in poor conditions. But for Mehboob and his family, this is a difficult moment. The care of elephants has been passed down for generations, and they had hoped that following instructions for the care of their animals would allow them to keep their elephants close to home. Now, no more elephants can roam the streets of Delhi.
