Airlift review | Akshay Kumar’s acting impresses, worth a watch

Raja Krishna Menon brings Akshay Kumar as Ranjit Katiyal back onscreen with Airlift - a film based on India's massive evacuation of its citizens from Kuwait in 1990. Nimrat Kaur plays his wife Amrita.

The film opens with the D-day - August 1, 1990 - when then Iraq President Saddam Hussein attacked Kuwait and Iraqi forces run rampage on the streets. On the same day, Ranjit - the business tycoon - closes a few deals, buys one of the most-sought after palaces in town, trumps a friend-cum-business rival and heads home for a party.

While Akshay impresses with his acting prowess, Nimrat Kaur disappoints in all but one scene. Despite the hiccups, Airlift is an engaging story of human values and emotions - one that is worth a watch.
