Devotees throng Kamakhya temple for annual festival

Hundreds of devotees are thronging the famous Kamakhya temple in Guwahati where an annual six-day festival began on Friday. The temple situated on the bank of river Brahmaputra, is dedicated to goddess Kamakhya, consort of Shiva, Hindu God of destruction. Legend goes that the dead body of Goddess Sati was divided into 51 pieces and that the temple is the yoni peeth or seat of female fertility.
