Fico said Brussels pushed the decision through using a qualified-majority vote to sidestep countries like Slovakia and Hungary, which rely heavily on Russian supplies through the Druzhba pipeline. He insisted Slovak imports make up only a small share of Moscow’s energy revenue and dismissed claims they fund the war. With both Bratislava and Budapest considering legal action, the dispute adds fresh tension to the EU’s energy and sanctions policy.
