Hijab Stir: Karnataka students divided; Spark ‘Religion over Education’ debate

• The Hijab versus Saffron protests have been raging across Karnataka. The protests by Muslim students first erupted at the beginning of 2022, when Kundapur PU College students alleged that they were not allowed in colleges with Hijabs. Soon other students wearing saffron shawls started protesting the demand by Muslim girls. While the Karnataka High Court hears the petition filed by Muslim girl students demanding that they be granted their constitutional rights, Hindustan Times reached Udupi the focal point of the stir. While speaking to students, Hindustan Times learnt that the entire controversy has divided the classrooms into two groups and in some cases even led to breakage of friendships. While Muslim girls refused to compromise on their demands, other students demanded that education should be given priority over religion. Watch this video for more details.
