Amit Shah’s ‘Hindi a unifier’ appeal stirs row, opposition call it ‘a bid to impose’

Updated on Mar 01, 2020 07:40 pm IST

Home Minister Amit Shah appealed for an increase in the use of Hindi and said that it can be a great unifier. The home minister was speaking at the event, Hindi Divas samaroh 2019 in Vigyan Bhawan. In a tweet, Amit Shah said Hindi can play a key role in 'uniting the country'. Shah's appeal was seen by opposition as a bid to impose the language on non-Hindi speaking states. DMK chief MK Stalin demanded that Shah should withdraw his statement.
