Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016: 12-hour statewide bandh called in Assam
Updated on Oct 23, 2018 04:31 pm IST
46 organisations in Assam have called for 12-hour statewide bandh today. The bandh has been called against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016. The bill seeks to amend Citizenship Act 1955. In an interview, a resident of Guwahati spoke about the bandh. He said, “The bandh looks successful so far. People's sentiments are attached to this bandh. The government's decision of cancelling our trade licences is not practical. People are protesting against this. And the bandh has been successful. It's a fearful situation. This is the topic of discussion everywhere. The order issued by the government has gripped the tradesmen fraternity by fear.”
