Day 1: Modi govt’s ‘landmark’ moves for farmers, traders; Budget on July 5

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the first Cabinet meeting of his second term, a day after the Council of Ministers took oath of office and secrecy. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, while addressing the media, said that the Cabinet took some landmark decisions. These included extending the benefits of Rs 6000 per annum income support to all farmers, pension schemes for small farmers and traders, and a vaccination programme for cattle. Javadekar also announced that the second part of the Budget session of Parliament would begin on June 17 and end on July 26. The union budget will be presented on July 5.
