Updated on Feb 29, 2020 11:16 pm IST

A day after publication of the final list of the National Register of Citizens, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a clarification. Spokesperson for the ministry, Raveesh Kumar, said that those excluded from the list haven't become 'state-less'. The Centre said that those excluded will continue to enjoy the same rights as before, till all remedies as per law are exhausted. Kumar also said that the state of Assam has offered free legal assistance to anyone not named in the final list. The unprecedented exercise to identify illegal immigrants in Assam saw the exclusion of over 1.9 million people from the NRC. They now have 120 days to file appeals.
