Home Minister led the BJP'S charge to amend the SPG Act in Lok Sabha. He said that the changes proposed will restore the law to its original intent. Amit Shah accused previous governments of diluting the provisions of the SPG Act. He said that under the new provision, only the Prime Minister and his family members who reside with him along with former Prime Ministers and their family who stay in accommodations provided by the government will be given SPG cover for 5 years.
