Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attended her first Goods and Services Tax Council meeting on June 21. She called the environment at the meeting 'conducive' and said that meaningful discussions took place. She also recounted that all the participants expressed their gratitude for Arun Jaitley, Nirmala's predecessor, who was unable to join the Union Cabinet in the new Modi government due to ill health. Multiple decisions like stricter anti-profiteering rules and extension of the last date for filing annual returns were taken at the meeting.
