Election 2019: ‘15 million new voters in 18-19 years age group,’ says CEC

The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates not only for the 2019 general elections, but also state assembly polls for Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Lok Sabha elections will begin on April 11 and will be held over seven phases followed by counting of votes on May 23. “Total electorate in this Lok Sabha elections will be 900 million, of which 15 million voters are in the 18-19 age group,” said Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora. He added that said the model code of conduct would come into immediate effect from Sunday and 10 lakhs polling stations would be set up this time as against about nine lakhs in 2014.
