Man thrashed in Srinagar for trying to hoist the tricolour

A man was thrashed and detained by the police in Srinagar on the eve of Independence Day for trying to hoist the tricolour at Lal Chowk. A scuffle broke out between the locals and the unidentified man after he tried raise the tricolour. The man was thrashed by the mob and was arrested by the police. Last year six activists of the Shiv Sena were detained in Srinagar as police thwarted their bid to hoist a tricolour at Lal Chowk. The Shiv Sena activists arrived at Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) in two vehicles and were taken into preventive custody as soon as they alighted, a police official said.
