Opinion I Shashi Shekhar on Modi-Shah duo and Mahagathbandhan politics

Updated on Mar 30, 2019 02:38 pm IST

Hindustan Editor-in-Chief Shashi Shekhar says that a pan-India Mahagathbandhan is too late in the making but can still spring a surprise. With less than a fortnight to go for Phase one of voting on April 11, he says that the “Modi-Shah duo were smart in giving away more seats to regional parties in a bid to stitch up alliances. Congress on the other hand has been more hesitant in giving up seats for regional partners. But they can still salvage the situation.” He adds that Priyanka Gandhi's entry into the political arena has given a new lease of life to Congress workers in Uttar Pradesh. “Whether it will translate into more seats for the Congress in U.P remains to be seen,” he says.
