Over 8 lakh evacuated along eastern coast ahead of Cyclone Fani’s landfall

Over 8 lakh people have been evacuated in areas along India's east coast, with Cyclone Fani expected to make landfall on May 3, 2019. Extremely heavy rainfall has been predicted in parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high level meeting to review preparedness for Cyclone Fani. The Indian Meteorological Department has said that Fani is heading towards Puri with wind speeds ranging between 170-180 km/hour.
