Rs 500 crore relief package inadequate for Kerala floods, says Sitaram Yechury

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury on Sunday demanded that the relief package given by the Centre for Kerala flood victims should be raised and the disaster should be declared a 'national calamity'. He said, “Our party's sympathies and unity is with the victims of Kerala. We were expecting that when PM Modi was in Kerala he would declare this a national calamity but it did not happen. The relief package of Rs 500 crore given by the Centre to Kerala is inadequate against the estimation of more than Rs 20,000 crore and the amount needs to be raised.”
