Late Kerala nun Mariam Thresia was declared a saint by Pope Francis at a grand ceremony in Vatican City. Thresia was among 4 others canonised by the Pope at the event. The others were English cardinal John Henry Newman, Swiss laywoman Margeurite Bays, Brazilian Sister Dulce lopes, and Italian Sister Giuseppina Vannini. Thresia had founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family in Thrissur in May 1914.
