Watch: Chaos in Rajya Sabha as Opposition MPs protest; govt slams ‘thuggery’

Scenes of chaos were witnessed in the Parliament's Upper House during a debate on two agriculture-related bills. Opposition MPs first trooped into the Rajya Sabha's well and then tried to drown out the agriculture minister's statement with slogans and claps. Deputy Chairman Harivansh was presiding over the proceedings. At one point, All India Trinamool Congress' Derek O'Brien was seen standing at the Deputy Chair's podium and brandishing the rule book at him. Other MPs then joined him at the spot while raising slogans. Subsequently, a scuffle broke out over the microphone on Harivansh's table. Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu is considering taking action against the Opposition MPs who participated in the protest. Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha passed 2 of the 3 contentious bills which are also seeing protests by farmers on the streets.
