A worsening water crisis in Shimla has forced its residents to ask tourists to not visit the town - at least, till the time the situation improves. The Himachal capital is facing severe water shortage during peak tourist season with taps running dry over a week now in many areas. Locals have been forced to stand in queues for hours to get water or buy it from private suppliers at exorbitant prices. Many hotels have been forced to cancel bookings. This has also led to protests and appeals by residents on social media, asking tourists not to visit the town for some time. Why is Shimla witnessing water shortage? How bad is the situation?
