Updated on Sept 13, 2007 10:03 pm IST
Takhel village in the remote Baru hills of Manipur is isolated from the rest of the world. There's only one source of news… and that is the Paothang channel. Paaothang means news through someone. Thousands of people in this village keep themselves abreast with the occurrences across the world through the newspapers read over the loudspeaker. This effort to keep the villagers updated on current news was started by K Biren Singh.
