Budget 2011-12: Poor to get subsidies on fuel, fertilisers in cash

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced subsidies in cash on kerosene, fertilisers and cooking gas for people living below poverty line (BPL), while presenting the 2011-12 union Budget in Parliament on Monday. The Finance Minister said that the government would move towards direct transfer of cash to the poor from March 2012 to ensure greater efficiency, cost-effectiveness and better delivery for both kerosene and fertilizers.
