Burn less crackers this Diwali: Sheila Dikshit

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has urged people to burn less firecrackers on the occasion of Diwali, to control thick blanket of smog around the national capital. Delhi has been witnessing a thick blanket of smog, a combination of smoke and fog. Dikshit said that short and long term steps need to be taken to control smog. Dikshit also added that people must understand the disadvantages of using diesel and must deteriorate the use of diesel. Meanwhile, Chairperson of Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA), Bhure Lal said that burning of paddy straw and stubble should also be a punishable offence as smoke from such fires has been identified as one of the contributing factors to rising air pollution in the city.Keywords: Sheila Dikshit, Diwali, Crackers, EPCA
