CBI arrests Income Tax officer for allegedly taking bribe

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday, arrested Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Andasu Ravindar in Chennai while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of 50 lakh rupees. Ravindar, from the 1991-batch of Indian Revenue Service, would be in judicial custody for the next 14 days. Apparently, during a search at the premises of a private educational firm, Everonn Education Limited, Ravinder had found that the Managing Director of the firm, P Kishore, had concealed taxable income of almost Rupees 1.16 billion. Kishore, who had contacted Ravindar through a chartered accountant, asked for reduction in the income tax liability to Rupees 600 million in exchange for a bribe of Rs 50 lakh.
