Centre wants Nitish to head anti-maoist command
Updated on Oct 24, 2012 03:54 pm IST
With Maoists becoming more desperate to retain their corridors of influence in 20 of India's 28 states, the UPA-II government is of the view that there is a need for establishing a unified command to take on the rebels. Chief Secretaries and police chiefs of nine states affected by the Maoist menace have reportedly recommended the need for such a unified command, which will recruit officers from the security establishment and bureaucrats of proven merit. At present, only four of the nine heavily hit Maoist states have a unified command to neutralize the Maoist influence on people. These are West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Chattisgarh.
