Australia finished Day 1 of the Melbourne Test on 277 for 6, after Zaheer and Umesh Yadav put on a brilliant pace display even as Cowan and Ponting came close to scoring centuries. India took three wickets in the final session to thwart the Aussies, setting up an intriguing Day 2.
