Farmers in Punjab sell Pusa-1121 at lucrative prices

Farmers in Punjab are selling Pusa-1121, a variety of rice that has been given the status of Basmati rice, at lucrative prices. Farmers rejoicing at the windfall say that the expenditure involved in growing this variety of rice is less than other varieties. Pusa-1121 variety earlier belonged to the non-Basmati category but with its inclusion in the Basmati category, farmers are now able to sell it at a prices ranging up to almost double the earlier price.
