Economic compulsions have driven Lakshmi Rani Barman in India's northeastern city of Guwahati to become an auto rickshaw driver, which is considered strictly a male preserve. Laksmhi Rani has taken to the profession not by chance but by choice to eke out a living in the absence of a male member in the family. Laksmhi Rani has been driving the auto rickshaw for the last 3 years.
