Jammu and Kashmir police have started a recruitment drive for over 110 special polices officers or SPOs, an auxiliary police force used mainly in counter-insurgency. These SPOs would be hired for a year, reportedly a strategy to tighten the security of the state to ensure free and fair elections. The elections in the state are to be held by the end of this year. Almost 4000 unemployed young boys queued up for the test with a hope to serve their motherland.
