Kudankulam Row: Protest stepped up outside TN Assembly
Updated on Oct 29, 2012 01:43 pm IST
Stepping up their protest against the Kudankulam nuclear power plant project, anti-nuclear activists today demonstrated outside the Tamil Nadu Assembly, calling for closure of the plant. The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) also extended its support to the Assembly siege protest called by the activists pressing their demand against the commissioning of the controversial KNPP. Earlier this month, the People's Movement against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) had protested in the sea against the KNPP. First conceived in 1988, Russian-built Kudankulam was supposed to have gone into operation last year, but protest started after an earthquake and tsunami hit Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, causing radiation leaks and forcing mass evacuations.
