Maha, Guj ink pact with Centre on interlinking rivers

With an aim to provide water to the arid and water deficit areas, Gujarat and Maharashtra signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the central government in New Delhi on Monday to prepare project reports to inter-link several rivers in their region. The tripartite MoU was signed by state chiefs Narendra Modi and Ashok Chavan, and central Water Resources Minister PK Bansal in the presence of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Manmohan Singh hailed the state governments for the initiative.
