Manipur Police on Thursday arrested three rebels and recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives in Imphal, the main city of the insurgency-hit region. Police recovered 2,100 cartridges of AK series rifles, 500 M-16 rifle rounds, 70 lathode bombs, 10 Chinese hand grenades with detonators, 13 Chinese-made 2-inch mortar shells, and other ammunition from their possession. Officials claimed that the rebels belonged to the banned People's Liberation Army (PLA) outfit that came to the city to carry out extortion activities.
