Medinipur Villagers on strike, demand release of suspected Maoist

Villagers of Medinipur district in West Bengal went on a hunger strike on Monday demanding the release of a fellow villager suspected of being a Maoist activist. A doctor by profession, Jawaharlal Mahato was arrested on April 7 from Mathurapur. To demand his release and withdrawal of joint forces from the villages, nearly 2000 villagers from nearby villages went on the hunger strike.
