MLA Jagabandhu Majhi, shot dead by Maoists, cremated

Biju Janata Dal legislator Jagabandhu Majhi, who was gunned down by suspected Maoists in Orissa, was cremated on Sunday. 39-year old Majhi, a well-known tribal leader, was shot point blank during a public meeting along with his personal security officer P K. Patro, by suspected Maoist rebels in Nawarangpur district on September 24. According to media reports, the incident took place around 1 pm, when Majhi had gone to Gona village to distribute land 'pattas' to landless people.
