Muzaffarnagar riots: SC says UP government failed to protect people's rights
Updated on Mar 26, 2014 02:31 pm IST
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said the Uttar Pradesh government had failed to protect the fundamental rights of people in Muzaffarnagar, where nearly 60 people were killed in riots last year. The court also said that there is no need for a CBI or a court-monitored probe into the Muzaffarnagar riots "at this juncture". The apex court also pulled up the Central and State intelligence agencies for not alerting the Uttar Pradesh government on the impending riots.
